“He is on track to throw 45-50 TDs”

Brian Kelly appeared on the Paul Finebaum Show on Monday to talk about the Tigers' strong start to the season on offense.

The Tigers lost to USC in Week 1 of the season, but Nussmeier was far from to blame. Despite the loss, he threw two touchdowns and just over 308 yards.

Nussmeier looked even better in Week 2 against Nicholls, again throwing for 6 touchdowns and over 300 yards. The LSU QB has thrown more touchdowns than any other quarterback in the SEC and ranks third in total passing yards.

Here’s what Kelly had to say on the Paul Finebaum Show:

Kelly said LSU will need all of Nussmeier's touchdowns this season, perhaps a nod to the injury to running back John Emery, who played very well against USC before being out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

LSU has an interesting matchup this weekend. The Tigers travel to Columbia to face South Carolina, which looked awful in Week 1 but rebounded with a convincing win over Kentucky in Lexington. The Gamecocks made UK QB Brock Vandagriff look like a high school student, but they'll have a bigger challenge this weekend against Nussmeier.

The game is scheduled to kick off next Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on ABC.
