Peruvian arrested after chase in Fulton County

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – A Peru man faces multiple charges after leading police on a chase through Fulton County.

An Indiana State Trooper was traveling on Old US-31 around 3 p.m. Wednesday when he attempted to stop a silver Chevrolet Impala. The driver initially stopped but sped off during the traffic stop.

During the chase, the driver, identified as 58-year-old Jeffery Azbell, threw a substance from his vehicle that was later determined to be meth. After searching his car, police said they found additional drugs.

Officers believed Azbell was under the influence of alcohol, so they took him to a local hospital for a certified test before taking him to the Fulton County Jail.

Azbell is accused of the following preliminary charges:

  1. Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony
  2. Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle – Level 6 Felony
  3. Obstruction of Justice – Level 6 Serious Crime
  4. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Class A Misdemeanor
  5. Driving under the influence of alcohol – Class A misdemeanor
  6. Reckless Driving – Class C Misdemeanor
