1 dead and 6 injured after accident in Mille Lacs County

One man was killed and six others were injured when a vehicle crossed the center line and collided with another in Greenbush Township late Saturday morning.

What we know

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a man driving a Buick Lesabre was driving east on Highway 95 near 120th Avenue just before noon when he crossed the center line and collided with a Chevrolet Equinox.

The driver of the Lesabre, identified as 36-year-old Ulysses Chase, died at the scene, authorities said. The vehicle's other three passengers, an 11-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and a 41-year-old woman, all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, none of the Lesabre's occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The Lesabre's airbags were also not deployed at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Equinox, a 63-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries. The other two passengers of the Equinox, a 38-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

All passengers in the Equinox were wearing seat belts.

What we don’t know

Authorities did not provide any information about what caused Chase to cross the center line and eventually collide with the other vehicle.

It is not known why the airbags in the Lesabre did not deploy.

The current condition of the injured is also unknown.
