Man charged with murder after double homicide in Rowan County

WOODLEAF, NC (WBTV) – A man is charged with murder following a double homicide Saturday morning in Rowan County.

It happened on Saturday, September 14, around 8:40 a.m. on Old Oak Lane in Woodleaf.

According to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, a woman named Amanda Burr called 911 and said a friend named Jonathan Freeman sent her a picture of her husband, Brandon Burr, lying dead in their home.

Rowan County officials were also notified that Jonathan's wife, Terri Freeman, was also found dead in the home.

When officers arrived, they said they found Jonathan still at the scene and confirmed that both Brandon and Teri were in the building. They had apparently died from gunshot wounds.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence where Amanda and Brandon were staying. Evidence collected at the crime scene and statements Freeman made to people he contacted after the murders led investigators to charge him with two counts of murder.

Freeman was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center without bail and will make his first court appearance on Tuesday, September 17.

Freeman resides in Lexington, North Carolina, and lived with his wife Teri.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the double homicide should call Lt. Ryan Barkley at 704-276-8711.
