Ashland police arrested two Georgia men on Friday for allegedly coercing a person to cash a counterfeit check.

Jawon Adams, 25, and D'Andre Smith, 32, were arrested for second-degree kidnapping, forgery, possession of a forgery instrument and check fraud.

Police said they were called to a local bank around 10:30 a.m. where a person was allegedly attempting to cash a bad check. Officers said they found the person was homeless and had been forced to cash bad checks at several locations in Jefferson City and Ashland.

According to police, the perpetrator provided information about the suspect and a description of the vehicle. At around 4:15 p.m., police found the vehicle at a local gas station.

Adams and Smith were booked into the Boone County Jail and are being held without bail, according to jail records.

Ashland police said they seized the vehicle and evidence, including cash, blank checks, a computer, a printer and numerous cell phones.

Police are asking anyone with information about these incidents to call 311 and ask to speak to an Ashland Police officer.
