Lt. Chelsea Garcia of the Operations Division and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator reviews search fundamentals as U.S. Coast Guard Micronesia/Sector Guam and Station Apra Harbor personnel join forces with local rescue units and law enforcement officials from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands for an intensive three-day Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREx) in Saipan, Sept. 10-12, 2024. The event began with visits to key facilities including the Department of Homeland Security Emergency Operations Center and Emergency Management, Customs and Biosafety Office, and the Division of Fish and Wildlife, where U.S. Coast Guard personnel toured search and rescue assets, discussed routine operations and procedures, and met with new leadership including the heads of emergency management and communications.
