Father and son from Waynoka dead after apparent murder-suicide

A father and his 3-year-old son have died in Waynoka. Authorities are investigating a murder-suicide. Just before 11:40 p.m. Friday, authorities responded to a home about 5 miles southeast of Waynoka city limits after a self-inflicted gunshot wound was reported. At the home, they found the man dead at the scene, according to the Woods County Sheriff's Office. The boy was taken to a hospital in Alva, where he later died, officials said. Both the man and boy had gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff's office. Information on the two has not been released. Waynoka Mayor Susan Bradford told KOCO 5 the news was difficult for the community to take. “You would never dream of something like this happening in your community,” Bradford said. The mayor said Waynoka is like most Oklahoma cities and wants to help its own people, especially during a tragedy. “It's a very supportive community. We tend to rally around our people who live here and help them when they need help,” Bradford said. Bradford added that her small town of less than 1,000 people saw the man and his son in and around Waynoka all the time. “It's very disheartening, especially because these were people we knew,” Bradford said. She told KOCO 5 that the biggest goal for her and others in the community is to be there for the child's mother. “The discussion is, what can we do to help this young mother who is devastated by this disaster in her life?” Bradford said.
