2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix race report and highlights: Oscar Piastri beats Charles Leclerc to win Azerbaijan GP amid race-ending chaos

Behind Piastri and Leclerc, George Russell was the big winner in the duel between Perez and Sainz, taking an unexpected podium finish in his Mercedes, while Lando Norris – who started from P15 on an alternative strategy – overtook his title rival Max Verstappen towards the end of the race to take P4.

Fernando Alonso endured a lonely afternoon in his Aston Martin, moving up to sixth place with drama looming, while Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto built on Williams' strong qualifying performance to score a valuable points haul for the Grove-based team.

Lewis Hamilton secured a double points finish for Mercedes after starting from last place due to engine problems, while the final reward of the day went to Haas replacement Ollie Bearman, who impressively finished just ahead of his experienced teammate Nico Hülkenberg.

Pierre Gasly also managed to climb from the back of the field to 12th place after being disqualified from qualifying. He was followed by RB's Daniel Ricciardo, Kick Sauber's Zhou Guanyu and his Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon – the latter two recovering from penalties for engine failure.

Valtteri Bottas finished last in the other Sauber, while Perez and Sainz finished the race on the sidelines alongside Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda, having collided on the first lap, with the former suffering a puncture while the latter suffered car failure.
