Sam Darnold believes his time with the 49ers will help him for Sunday

Sam Darnold got off to an electric start in his Minnesota debut. The veteran threw for 208 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a win over the New York Giants. The 49ers visit Minnesota in Week 2. Darnold, who began his career with the New York Jets before moving to Carolina, was the backup in San Francisco last season.

The 49ers are one of the top teams in the NFL, but Darnold believes his experience as a scout quarterback will help him this weekend.

“Yeah, I think seeing them every day definitely helps,” Darnold said. “Just experience, being able to see the defense, but I'm sure they'll do some things differently. But like I said, I'm really excited for the opportunity.”

But Darnold is a quarterback coming of age in the NFL and believes he himself learned a tremendous amount under Kyle Shanahan. When he got a chance to play in games last year, he threw for 297 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

“Just learning how they do things there – not just schematically, but as an organization,” Darnold said. “It was great to be able to be a part of that [it] for a year. And it was great to be part of the season we had last year.”
