A man was arrested after shooting in John Day

JOHN DAY – UPDATE (From Grant County Sheriff’s Office)-

On the evening of September 14 at approximately 10:42 p.m., the Grant County Emergency Communication Center (GCECC) received several 911 calls reporting shots fired at the Bare Bones Bar in John Day.

Deputies responded immediately as additional units were called to assist in the situation.

Eric Allen Lawhead, 36, of Ukiah, was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another person, menacing, hit and run (two counts), driving under the influence and disorderly conduct. Lawhead was found near mile marker 157 on Highway 26 at approximately 10:51 p.m. after fleeing the scene.

No one reported being hit by the gunfire at the scene.

The investigation is currently ongoing and no further details will be released at this time.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: On Saturday, September 14, at approximately 10:42 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting incident at a bar on West Main Street in John Day. Oregon State Police and John Day Ambulance also arrived at the scene.

Eric Lawhead, 36, of Ukiah was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and other charges not listed in press transcripts. No other official information on the incident has been released. Witnesses say no one was injured in the shooting. We will provide updates from law enforcement as they arrive.
