Suspect in shooting near Trump in Palm Beach was ‘relatively calm’ when arrested

Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder said officers in his department have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that the FBI described as a likely assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Sunday in Palm Beach County.

Snyder said Martin County officials responded to a wanted notice for a black Nissan SUV while searching for the suspect in the shooting near Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach.

“There was a single driver in the vehicle. That driver is now in custody,” Snyder said, adding that he was “relatively calm” and “did not show any great emotion.”

Snyder said Florida Highway Patrol troopers closed northbound Interstate 95 and a traffic stop of the suspect resulted in an accident involving civilians. Snyder also said Martin County officials are working with the U.S. Secret Service, FBI and Palm Beach Sheriff's Office.

“The FBI will take the car, we will transport it back to Palm Beach for them,” Snyder said.
