Nava Mau from “Baby Reindeer” gets emotional during 2024 Emmy interview

Nava Mau is not the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy, and she certainly won't be the last.

The Baby reindeer star is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Anthology or Movie category – making her the fourth transgender person nominated at the awards show and the first in the category – and she is well aware of the significance of the moment.

“I think that as a community we are fighting to be able to tell stories that come from the heart and are based on a human foundation,” said Nava Live from E! host Laverne Coxwho was the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy and who became emotional during the conversation with Nava. “Because that's who we are as transgender people. We are people first and foremost.”

The 32-year-old wore a dress by RuPaul's Drag Race star Gigi Goodecontinued: “In my opinion, this is the best thing to celebrate Baby reindeeris that it's actually an LGBT show, that it's a show that features a trans character, and that it's also a really good show. And that's something I'm very proud of.”
