Teenager arrested after stabbing during fight at Freedom High School

A 16-year-old was taken into custody by Oakley police after a knife was pulled during a fight at Freedom High School on Friday.

According to Oakley police, a fight broke out between two male students on the Freedom High School campus shortly after 10:00 a.m. During the fight, one of the two, a 16-year-old, dropped a knife from his waistband onto the ground. The 16-year-old picked it up and the other student fled.

The 16-year-old chased the other student with the knife in his hand but was unable to catch him. The 16-year-old then ran off the school premises. The 16-year-old later returned and was taken into custody by Griggs, the Oakley Police School liaison officer.

The 16-year-old was transferred and booked into the juvenile hall on a variety of charges. The City of Oakley did not release any further information.

Fights at Antioch High School

Despite rumors on social media about several fights and an attack on a teacher, the school principal John Jimnohe gave a clarification on the incident:

Yesterday (Monday) we had a fight during our first lunch. One girl wanted to go ahead and fight and when I stopped her she tried and may have hit me slightly but it's not as crazy as her trying to fight with me. An angry family came to us and made it harder for us to calm the situation down because they were so upset.

While I was trying to calm down the parent who was being aggressive toward me, a second argument broke out outside of school. With 1,000 students at lunch, the situation was much harder to resolve, and a confrontational parent didn't help either, so we called Antioch Police to help us with the parent. But all in all, there were two separate arguments that were related to each other, and a parent who was a little too aggressive. There was no gunshot or threat of a weapon.

To my knowledge, no site safety was intentionally grabbed or thrown by a student. I wouldn't call it a normal day, but it was not as described in your email.
