Suspect in shooting at youth soccer game also accused of kidnapping and robbery

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Buffalo police say a man is in custody following a series of crimes Sunday, including a shooting at a youth football game in Buffalo that left one of them hospitalized.

Police describe a complicated and rapidly evolving situation that began with a gun attack on Moselle Street at 11 a.m. The suspect is said to have:

  • Forced a man and a woman into his car and took the woman's cell phone so she couldn't call for help
  • Went to a youth soccer game off Koons Avenue
  • Two people were robbed while playing, a woman's phone and a man's chains were stolen
  • During the game, a man was shot and hit twice
  • Attempted to leave the crime scene in the same car in which the female victim was still located

Ferry-Fillmore officers responded around 11:30 a.m. to the corner of Sycamore Street and Koons Avenue, right next to Harvey Austin Elementary School.
The suspect then put the vehicle in reverse, police said, and eventually crashed on Koons Avenue, where police arrested him and confiscated a weapon.

The shooting victim is a 31-year-old man from Rochester. Police say he was taken to ECMC and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Rahaan Mallory, 29, is in custody on probation and faces several charges, including second-degree kidnapping, attempted murder, menacing and illegal possession of a firearm.
