Billy Crudup calls his wife Naomi Watts a “head-turner” at the 2024 Emmys

Billy Crudup was named the winner at the 76th Emmy Awards.

The morning show The star nabbed the coveted award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series on Sunday, September 15.

Crudup and his co-stars Jon Hamm and Mark Duplass led the nominations for best supporting actor in a drama series, with ShogunNext come Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira, followed by Jonathan Pryce of The Crown And Slow horses“Jack Lowden.

Crudup, 56, gave his wife Naomi Watts, who herself received a 2024 Emmy nomination, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, a shoutout in his acceptance speech.

“This is an incredible honor,” Crudup said. “Thank you all. I'm thrilled to be here with my showstopper, my wife, who also happens to be an immigrant and also had an amazing performance this year for which she was nominated. And she's also starting companies. It's so nice to be by her side.”

He also praised The morning show's creative team.

“I just want to say this is to the writers and educators who have allowed me to write writing that is beyond my level,” Crudup said. “Every time I saw the scripts, I had to go back and work on the techniques that teachers like Ron Van Lieu had taught me.”

The actor concluded by mentioning his children. “This process has been incredible for me and I hope everyone else involved knows how much it means to me. So thank you all,” Crudup concluded. “And hello to the kids too. I know you're watching wherever you are.”

Crudup and Watts, 55, married in a civil ceremony in New York City in June 2023 and said “I do” again this June in Mexico City. Watts' brother, photographer Ben Watts, confirmed the news in an Instagram post, which also showed that the actress' sons Kai, 15, and Sasha, 16 – who she has with ex Liev Schreiber – as well as her niece Ruby were all in attendance at the recent celebration.

Crudup was nominated again for his role as network president Cory Ellison. The morning show. He was nominated in this category in each of the show's three seasons and took home the trophy in 2020.

In his virtual acceptance speech after the win, he said he knew from the “second” he landed the role that this was “something to be lucky about.”

“It took an army of support and I'm incredibly grateful,” he said, before addressing his co-stars, including Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. “You gave me a wonderful opportunity and … I'm glad to have done something for you.”

In addition to Crudup, his co-stars Hamm and Duplass are also nominated in this category, and Aniston and Witherspoon were also nominated for their leading roles. The Apple TV+ series received a whopping 16 nominations in total, including nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Greta Lee, Holland Taylor, Nicole Beharie and Karen Pittman.

Lowden, 34, is one of several first-time nominees in the category and received the nomination for his role as River Cartwright, one of the many MI5 agents who work under Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb at Slough House in Apple TV+’s Slow horses.

The series, which returned with Season 4 on Sept. 4, received nine nominations this year — including a nod for Oldman for outstanding lead actor in a drama and outstanding drama series. It's the first time the show has received recognition since its premiere in 2022.

Hamm was nominated in two categories this year, for his work on The morning show like corporate titan Paul Marks and for Fargoin which he played local sheriff Roy Tillman and received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Anthology Series or a Movie.

In the role of Paul Marks, Hamm was a lover of Aniston's presenter Alex Levy – and the couple did not even need an intimacy coordinator for their scenes together, as Aniston said diversity“Jon was always such a gentleman – I mean, with every move, every cut, he would ask, 'Are you OK?'”

The 53-year-old has been nominated for an Emmy 16 times, but has only taken home the award once: for his last role as Don Draper in mad Men in 2015.

Pryce received a nomination for his portrayal of Prince Philip in the final chapter of The CrownThe 77-year-old Welsh actor has only two nominations so far, but is in the running for more than one award this year, as his guest role as David Cartwright in Slow horses earned him a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

The royal series received a whopping 18 nominations this year and Elizabeth Debicki, who played Princess Diana in the last two seasons, told PEOPLE that the recognition “really feels like the icing on the cake of such a beautiful thing.”

“The show has been going for a long time and my cast and I have been on this journey for almost three years in terms of preparation, filming and press, so it's just a beautiful end to a long and beautiful – but sometimes really challenging – chapter as an actor.”

Duplass is the third and final star from The morning show who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series – his third nomination overall and his second for his role as Charles “Chip” Black in the Apple TV+ series.

Duplass, 47, responded to the nomination in an Instagram post, calling it a “wonderful honor.”

“But my favorite part of the news this morning was talking to my fellow nominees,” he continued, before issuing a call to action regarding mental health. “And almost without exception, the question has changed from previous years' 'Congratulations, aren't you so excited?' to 'Congratulations… how are you?' It's hard right now. For almost all of us. Please take care of yourselves and each other.”

Duplass has already won an Emmy, in 2018 for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series as Executive Producer. Wild Wild Land on Netflix.

This is Asano’s first nomination and the Japanese actor received it for his role as Kashigi Yabushige, the Lord of Izu, in ShogunThe FX series dominated this year's nominations, leading the drama series categories with an impressive 25 nominations. The bear — which is in the comedy category — came in a close second with 23 nominations.

Following his nomination, Asano, 50, shared a joint post with the series on Instagram celebrating the news. The caption called his character a “dangerous ally” and offered Asano his well-deserved congratulations on the recognition. “Arigato ❣️,” he captioned the post.

Like his co-star, 50-year-old Hira is nominated for the first time. He played Ishido Kazunari, a farmer turned warlord in Shogunwho concluded the first season in Osaka Castle alongside Taikō Nakamura Hidetoshi (Yukijirô Hotaru).

Together with Asaro and Hira Shogun Stars Anna Sawai, who played translator Toda Mariko, and Hiroyuki Sanada, who played Lord Yoshii Toanaga, were nominated for outstanding lead actress and actor in a drama series. The series – which has already been greenlit for two more seasons – was also nominated for outstanding drama series.
