Janet Jackson remembers the other major “wardrobe mishap” she suffered on stage

Music icon Janet Jackson takes a trip down fashion's past and remembers some of her top looks throughout her career.

Janet Jackson once almost showed the Queen of England her full moon.

The 58-year-old music icon recalled the embarrassing wardrobe malfunction that happened in the '90s while reflecting on some of her most memorable fashion moments for British Vogue. When the “That's the Way Love Goes” singer saw a picture of herself in her iconic “Rhythm Nation” jumpsuit, she said: “Funny story about this outfit: I was performing for the Queen of England and we were singing 'Rhythm Nation.' And sure enough, as soon as I squatted down, my pants ripped right in my butt crack. And I mean really bad.”

Jackson couldn't believe it, she said, adding, “I thought, 'Oh my God.' And then I felt air back there and knew it had really happened.”

She managed the fashion faux pas by never turning her back to the Queen. When the choreography required her to turn around, she said, “I just faced forward.”

“Can you imagine if I had shown her my gaze for just a second?” she said.

Elsewhere in the video, Jackson shows viewers looks from her childhood in the '70s to memorable stage performances from her epic entertainment career. She admits she was a tomboy who often had to assert herself when it came to choosing what to wear with her mother. She preferred suits and trousers, while her mother preferred dresses and colors like pink.

However, Jackson noted with a sly grin, “I have often prevailed.”

She added: “It was really just about being myself and feeling good.”

In another photo of her as a teenager at the American Music Awards, she wears a red ruffled taffeta dress and a pair of hoop earrings with a key dangling from one of them. She explained that since she didn't have a key chain with her, she had to come up with a way to keep the keys on her.

“I took care of the animals, and we had animals: giraffes, mouflons, sheep, pheasants, toucans, cockatoos, dogs,” she said, adding, “That's why I kept a key there.”

She also noted that she had not seen the dress since her older sister LaToya wore it in the 1980s.

“Sisters,” she said, laughing.

The video ends with a look from their current tour, designed by Thom Browne.

“There are certain designers that I just consider to be geniuses. Thom is one of them. He's a true genius and he did this for me on tour,” she noted of the designer, whom she described as a friend.

“And I think he has himself to thank for it, but he also has me to thank for it,” she said of the tuxedo overall look.

Speaking about the current tour and its fan base, the music legend said, “You know, it's the people who grew up with my music from the beginning and their kids. That shows me that my music has stood the test of time, which would be a dream for any artist.”
