Jean Smart jokes she'll win the 2024 Emmys, saying she “doesn't get enough attention”

For Jean Smart it was an unforgettable night!

The Hacking The star won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15, and began her speech by saying, “Thank you so much. This is truly a great honor.”

“And I appreciate it because I just don't get enough attention,” joked Smart, 73, adding to the laughter of the audience: “I'm serious!”

Smart also won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacking in 2021 and 2022. Over the course of her career, she has won a total of six Emmy Awards and received 13 nominations.

The actress, who plays comedian Deborah Vance in the hit series “Max,” previously spoke about how she had mixed emotions when she first read the script.

“When I read the script, I thought, 'This is everything I could want for my next job,'” Smart said The Hollywood Reporter in June. “But I had to be sure that real stand-up comedians would believe I was a comedian.”

“I was never a comedian, so they were the real litmus test for me. And I think I passed it!” she added.

This is the second Emmy nomination for Edebiri, who plays chef Sydney Adamu in the hit series The bearLast year, she won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the same role.

In addition to his role as chef at The Bear restaurant in Chicago, Edebiri, 28, also directed episode 6 of the third season of the Hulu series, titled “Napkins.”

Rudolph, 52, plays philanthropic billionaire Molly Wells in preyAnd in an interview with deadline, The actress talked about what originally attracted her to the role in the Apple TV+ series.

“Molly is such a fun character because she can be anything,” she said. “The first step in imagining playing Molly is that you're playing a billionaire, and that just feels like endless fun – the dream of all dreams. If you had all the money in the world, what would you do?”

“What I loved about this project is that Molly has all the money in the world and she wants to use it for good,” Rudolph continued. “It's a combination of those two things. I like the ridiculous and I also like the heart. Those are really my two favorite things and it's very fortunate when I get the chance to balance the two because I love playing both.”

She added: “They don't always go together, but in this particular case she seems to be a nice combination of both.”

Brunson plays Philadelphia teacher Janine Teagues in the ABC series, which she created, writes and executive produces.

The 34-year-old actress previously spoke about Janine's decision to work for the district and how she was able to show a new side of the character in season 3.

“I have always wanted this development for Janine,” she said The Hollywood Reporter in May. “I always joke about [Janine] watched a few YouTube videos over the summer. She learned a quick makeup tutorial. She learned how to define her curls, [and her best friend] Erika went shopping with her.”

“And to be honest, we do a lot of beating around Janine in seasons one and two, but I think the evolution that she came out of is still important and still valid and still beautiful. I want to be clear that we didn't think of her as a troll before,” she added. “It's an evolution.”

Gomez, 32, received her first Emmy nomination this year for her role as Mabel Mora in Only murders in the building.

And the actress thanks the writers of the series for providing fresh storylines.

“I give the writers full credit because they shock me. I'm a realist, so of course I think in my head, 'How many people could be in our building and this is happening?'” Gomez said The Hollywood Reporter. “And every time they lay out the plot for me, they point out the key moments that each of our characters will go through. I noticed that they really allowed my character to grow.”

“I think she felt a little more lost, and especially this season she has lost control of [herself] and the situation,” she continued of Mabel. “So it makes me very proud to grow with the show.”
