Albuquerque man accused of leading police on wild chase appears in court

An Albuquerque man is facing charges after police say he led police on a wild chase and then intentionally hit a dog.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — An Albuquerque man is facing charges after he challenged police on a wild chase and then intentionally struck a dog.

Albert Gomez appeared in court for the first time on Saturday.

According to police, Gomez drove a motorcycle recklessly through northwest Albuquerque. At one point, police say, he intentionally hit a dog that had wandered into the road. The pursuit ended when Gomez crashed into a police vehicle.

According to APD, Gomez has a history of reckless driving and verbal abuse of police officers. At the time of his arrest, seven warrants were outstanding for his arrest.

Gomez faces several charges, including drunk driving, eluding police and various other traffic violations.

His detention hearing will take place later this week in District Court.
