Sniffer dog finds drugs in vehicle, driver arrested near Marshall

MARENGO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – An Illinois man was arrested near Marshall after a deputy sheriff’s sniffer dog discovered drugs in his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Saturday at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office was called to I-94 westbound near Partello Road in Marengo Township for a report of an “erratic driver.” The arriving officer found the driver was driving erratically and had committed “numerous traffic violations.”

The deputy attempted to pull the driver over, but the suspect continued driving. Eventually, the driver stopped and a sniffer dog reported that there were narcotics in the vehicle. The deputy searched the vehicle and found baggies containing substances believed to be fentanyl and heroin. They appeared to be packaged for retail sale, the sheriff's office said.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Illinois, was arrested for drug possession with intent to resell and failure to stop at a police signal. He was booked into the Calhoun County Jail.
