Woon-A-Tai made history with his nomination for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series as the first Indigenous actor to be nominated in any lead acting category.

How ‘The Bear’ cast reacted to *that* Jeremy Allen White Calvin Klein ad

Jeremy Allen White made headlines last month when he appeared in the latest Calvin Klein steamy ad campaign. He apparently also surprised his co-stars on “The Bear.”

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly and People on the red carpet at the Emmys, Abby Elliott said their group chat didn’t address the situation but they were “quietly surprised.”

“We were all quietly surprised, like everybody,” she said. “Then I didn’t realize there was going to be another one coming out, so I opened Instagram and I was like, ‘Oh! another one!’ and it was like, ‘Oh wow, OK…'”

Elliott plays White’s character’s older sister on the show. She laughed and added that she thinks of White like a sibling in real life, as well.

“He’s like my brother,” she said. “He was with his real-life sister last night, and I met her and honestly it was like, ‘Wow, we kind of look alike.'”

Emmy-winner Alan Cumming teases Season 3 of ‘The Traitors’

Alan Cumming arrived to the 2024 Emmys already a winner.

“The Traitors” star won an Emmy — his first — for outstanding host for a reality or competition program at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys last weekend.

On Sunday, the Scottish actor arrived to the award ceremony wearing a red and white kilt in tribute to the show.

“The Traitors” Season 3 recently finished filming in Scotland, Cumming confirmed to E!’s Laverne Cox on the red carpet. He said the third season will be “brutal,” specifically, “big-time brutal.”

“What I love about this is some of the people, the biggest set of stars, go out really quickly, and that happens on this (season),” he said. “It’s a bloodbath. And then it gets really lovely.”

Season 3 will feature celebrities from across reality TV programs, including Rob Mariano from “Survivor,” Tom Sandoval from “Vanderpump Rules” and Dorinda Medley from “The Real Housewives of New York City.”

Scottish actor Alan Cumming jokes Taylor Swift ‘stole my look’ at the VMAs

Scottish actor and host of “The Traitors” Alan Cumming is known for wearing plaid and tartan. But after Taylor Swift showed up in a yellow and black plaid look at the MTV VMAs last week, he said he was surprised fans were comparing the pop superstar to him.

“B—- stole my look,” he quipped on the Emmys red carpet Sunday to Entertainment Weekly and People.

“I think it’s hilarious that so many people sort of said, ‘Taylor Swift looks like Alan Cumming,'” he laughed. “That’s a sentence I never thought I would hear!”

Cumming added that he’d posted about the comparison on Instagram, as well.

‘The Morning Show’ star calls it a ‘Sophie’s choice’ voting between Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon

“The Morning Show” stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are nominated in the same category at the 2024 Emmys, and one voter said choosing between them was nearly impossible.

Their fellow “Morning Show” co-star Mark Duplass, who is also nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, told Variety that he had a tough time deciding if he wanted to vote for Aniston or Witherspoon.

At the Television Academy’s Performer Nominee Celebration Sept. 13, he spoke to the publication and described his decision as a “Sophie’s choice.”

He added, “But, yes, I made a choice.”

Aniston and Witherspoon will battle it out in the outstanding lead actress in a drama series category for their performances in Season 3 of the Apple TV+ series. They are nominated alongside Carrie Coon (“The Gilded Age”), Maya Erskine (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Anna Sawai (“Shōgun”) and Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”).

As executive producers, Aniston and Witherspoon also received a nod for the the show’s nomination in the outstanding drama series category.

‘Shōgun’ is a clear favorite going into tonight… and its own star can’t believe it

“Shōgun” goes into this evening with 25 nominations — the most of any series.

The FX show, which tells the story of powerful feudal lords in 17th-century Japan and their families, is streaming on Hulu and Disney+. In its freshman season, the show has gotten almost universally positive reviews, NBC News reports.

Speaking to TODAY.com at the BAFTA North America’s TV Tea party on Saturday, actor Takehiro Hira — who plays Ishido Kazunari in the show — said he was surprised the show had been so well received.

“I didn’t expect it,” he said. “Given the show is pretty much all in Japanese, when I was filming, I was really worried that people wouldn’t watch it.”

“Shōgun” is up for outstanding drama series — among many other awards — and Hira himself is up for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series.

Olympian Ilona Maher is one of the 1st arrivals on the Emmys red carpet

Make way, an Olympian has arrived to the 2024 Emmys.

Team USA rugby star Ilona Maher is turning heads on the red carpet. The 28-year-old, who won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, posed for pictures at the award ceremony Sunday in a velvet, peplum-style gown.

TODAY captured Maher stopping to give to small spin as she posed in the strapless navy dress.

She placed her hands on her hips and made a silly face as photographers snapped photos.

Ahead of the ceremony, the Television Academy announced that Maher and fellow Olympian Caeleb Dressel, a swimmer, would make special appearances at the show.

‘The Bear’ Season 3 came out a few months ago — but it’s not up for any awards tonight

“The Bear” dropped its third season just a few months ago, but those performances aren’t up for any awards at tonight’s Emmy Awards.

The 23 Emmy nominations for “The Bear” are for its acclaimed second season, which premiered in June 2023. The 2024 Emmy Awards are for shows released from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024.

Season 3 of “The Bear” premiered June 26, 2024.

Season 2 saw the cast of characters try to turn a Chicago sandwich shop into a Michelin star-worthy restaurant.

Jon Bernthal and Jamie Lee Curtis, who appeared in Season 2’s chaotic and stressful sixth episode, “Fishes,” have already received 2024 Emmys for outstanding guest actor and actress in a comedy at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys.

“The Bear” cleaned up at the 2023 Emmys earlier this year, winning 10 awards for its first season, including outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for Jeremy Allen White and outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for Ayo Edebiri.

Who’s already won an Emmy this year?

Although the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards are hours away, many actors have already picked up their golden statuettes for wins at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys, which occurred Sept. 7 and 8.

The Creative Arts Emmys take place every year a weekend before the Primetime ceremony.

Historical drama “Shōgun” — which earned the most nominations out of any series with 25 — and dramedy “The Bear” have already picked up multiple wins. Among the winners for the two hit series are Néstor Carbonell for his portrayal of Vasco Rodrigues in “Shōgun” and Jamie Lee Curtis for her guest role as Donna Berzatto in “The Bear.”

In the outstanding host for a reality or competition program category, Alan Cumming took home the Emmy for his remarkable work on “The Traitors,” ending RuPaul’s eight-year streak in the category.

Meanwhile, Pat Sajak ended his run as host of “Wheel of Fortune” with an Emmy for outstanding host for a game show.

See more early winners here.

What are the Creative Arts Emmys, and why did they already happen?

To explain, let’s start from the top, so to speak.

Many Emmy Awards are handed out each year, and the majority aren’t featured in the television broadcast viewers at home may be familiar with.

The main category of awards featured in the telecast are the Primetime Emmy Awards — as in, shows that air in primetime (or, these days, shows you can watch on streaming that have the vibe of a primetime network show and not, say, a soap opera).

A subcategory of the Primetime Emmy Awards are the Creative Arts Emmys. These awards are still for work done on primetime shows, however, the creative arts categories honor behind-the-scenes artistic and technical achievement in TV.

The Creative Arts Emmys occurred last weekend and serve as a precursor event to the main Primetime Emmy Awards show.

“SNL” alum Maya Rudolph won her sixth career Emmy Sept. 7, taking the award for outstanding character voice-over for her work on “Big Mouth.” Angela Bassett won her first for her narration of the National Geographic show “Queens.”

In addition to the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Creative Arts Emmys, there are several more awards ceremonies throughout the year for different types of TV. With so many different categories, it’d be impossible to fit them into one ceremony.

So instead, they’re divided up into different categories, including:

  • Primetime Emmy Awards
  • Daytime Emmy Awards
  • Children’s & Family Emmys
  • News & Documentary Emmys
  • Sports Emmy Awards
  • Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards

Anyone who takes home an Emmy from any of the ceremonies is considered an Emmy winner.

Why are there two Emmys ceremonies this year?

Fans of the award show may remember that there was actually already an Emmys ceremony this year back in January.

The 75th Emmy Awards were initially scheduled to be held Sept. 18, 2023. Amid the Hollywood writers and actors strikes (which were later resolved), the ceremony was postponed to January.

So, the Emmys handed out in January 2024 were actually for the 2023 season.

Tonight’s awards show is for shows that aired or dropped online from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, according to the official website.

When they were announced as the emcees last month, Eugene and Dan Levy released a joint statement that said, “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough.”

“We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15,” the duo added.

At the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards in 2020, Eugene Levy was named outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his work on “Schitt’s Creek,” and Dan Levy won for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
