“Wasn’t on my bingo card”

The last few years of working on the set of Only Murders in the Building have been full of “pinch me” moments for Michael Cyril Creighton, but in Season 4 in particular, the actor jokes that he is “extremely hurt.”

“I'd come in and work with Eva Longoria, who I'm a huge fan of, or I'd watch a scene of Eugene Levy. And then to train with Zach Galifianakis, that wasn't on my bingo card. I didn't know that was going to happen, and it's one of my favorite things I've done on screen,” the actor told TheWrap. “It's always surprising and exciting to walk onto that set because you just don't know what legend you're going to be playing with that day.”

Creighton plays Howard Morris, who goes from being a murder suspect in the Tim Kono case in Season 1 to helping the series' trio solve the mystery of Sazz Pataki's (Jane Lynch) killer in Season 4.

“It's been incredible to watch him grow. I was thrilled when I got this job and thought it would only be for two episodes. To be here now and be a series regular after four seasons is a dream,” he said.[Howard] has always been really fun, but the incredible thing is that the writers seem to really understand him and my abilities and take my strengths into account but also challenge me. So it's never boring.”

Although Creighton doesn't have much control over the legends he works with on set, he does have a wish list of people he'd like to see in Season 5 and beyond.

“I think it would be so much fun to have Rachel McAdams on the show. I got to work with her a couple of times on 'Spotlight' and 'Game Night' and I just think she's a great person, a great actress and so funny,” he said. “Melanie Lynskey, who I love more than anything, would be a dream guest star; Margo Martindale, it'll all be character women that I love. But I trust that the best of the best will always come to our show because they're attracted to it, which is really cool.”

When asked if he was worried he might be killed off the show, Creighton didn't seem worried. This season, the show proved that no one is safe by taking the bold step of killing off Sazz.

“I don't know if it's bad to be killed on our show. I don't want to be. I asked not to know, so I'll never know what happens until I read the last episode, because I like to be surprised and find out for myself. But I think it's pretty dreamy to die on the show, because then you get another season where they have to solve the murder,” he said. “But I wouldn't wish death on myself. I would love to be part of this show for many, many, many years. But I never know what Howard's fate is. He's always suspicious and always seems to be in danger. He's a little bit of everything and that's the funny thing about him.”
