Police say MSP officers are no longer being given life support after accident on I-75

A Michigan State Police trooper has been taken off life support after causing a crash on Interstate 75 in Lincoln Park on Friday, officials said Sunday evening.

Motor Vehicle Officer Daniel Kerstetter was on the side of the road conducting a traffic stop when his vehicle was struck by another car about 8:40 a.m. on I-75 northbound near Dix Road in Lincoln Park, police said.

Kerstetter, 45, was wearing a seat belt in his car at the time of the accident. He was freed from the car using rescue shears, police said.

“It is with deep sadness that the Michigan State Police (MSP) announces that Motor Carrier Officer Daniel Kerstetter of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will be removed from life support pending the finalization of his family’s decision to donate his organs.

“MC Officer Kerstetter was unable to overcome the injuries he sustained in a traffic accident while on duty on September 13, 2024.”
