Evansville student arrested after posting ‘threatening message’

EVANSVILLE – A middle school student was arrested after school officials say the teen posted a “threatening message” on social media over the weekend – although law enforcement investigators reportedly believe the message was intended as a disruption rather than an actual threat.

A student at McGary Middle School faces “appropriate disciplinary action,” according to an email sent to families and staff at the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. around 7 p.m. Sunday. The email did not elaborate on what was allegedly said.

“Police concluded that the student was attempting to disrupt normal school life but did not intend to cause any real harm,” the email said. “We are sharing this with all EVSC families as this student has been identified and arrested by police and we want to eliminate the possibility of rumors developing at other schools as a result of this situation.”
