Franklin High School mourns student killed in Arizona car crash

A Franklin High School student died in a traffic accident in Arizona on Saturday evening.

Franklin Cougars posted on X about the death of Emmanuel Lopez, a high school football player.

The accident involving the two cars occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Interstate 10 in San Simon, Arizona, near the New Mexico border, the Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed.

According to AZ DPS, a semi-trailer truck and a passenger vehicle were traveling westbound when the accident occurred.

Three occupants of the car were killed and two others seriously injured, the AZ DPS confirmed.

When the accident happened, the semi-trailer caught fire.

The condition of the semi-trailer driver is unknown.
