15-year-old arrested in connection with ongoing threats in Pima County school district | Arizona News

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KVOA) – Threats at high schools across Pima County continue to be a problem after a 15-year-old student was arrested over the weekend for making threats against an Oro Valley high school.

On Saturday, Oro Valley Police received a report of threats against Canyon del Oro High School via an Instagram post.

According to OVPD, the Amphitheater School District also received several anonymous tips indicating a possible threat.

While the investigation is still ongoing, the OVPD says it was able to identify the 15-year-old account holder and has arrested him for terrorist threats and disruption of an educational institution.

According to OVPD, the student admitted to writing the post but claimed he had no intention of threatening or harming anyone.

Earlier this week, Pima County school districts also received threats, apparently part of a disturbing trend of threats against schools nationwide.

The TUSD, Sunnyside, Marana, Flowing Wells and Amphitheater districts all sent letters stating that the threats were not credible and that classes would not be canceled.

These threats remain under investigation by the Pima County Sheriff's Department. No students have been reported to have been arrested as a result of the threats.

Out of an excessive amount of caution, the OVPD assumes that students and staff will have to expect an increased police presence at the CDO in the coming week in order to convey a feeling of security.

The investigation is ongoing and will continue until all information is available. Stay with News 4 Tucson as we learn more.
