Andy Dalton starts as quarterback

“I owe it to all the guys, the coaches, the staff, the players, everyone involved to be really critical of what we're filming, what I'm seeing, and make sure I'm making the best decision for the team every week,” Canales said. “And it happens to be the quarterback position and so it's so crowded, but it's all the positions and all the guys. And I was able to stand in front of the team and challenge all the guys that we all have to step up our passion for what we're doing in order to play.”

Canales reiterated his confidence in Bryce Young, but together they have combined for 204 passing yards and 13 points this season while converting just 2 of 22 third-down attempts.

By signing the experienced Andy Dalton, they hope to benefit from the Pro Bowler's 14 years of experience in this position.

In 163 career starts, Dalton has a record of 83-78-2, with 246 touchdowns and 144 interceptions and a career passer rating of 87.6. He started one game in Seattle last year and threw for a season-high 334 yards.
