St. Clair Shores High School football coach fired after brawl

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) – A Macomb County high school football coach has been fired after a fight broke out during a game.

The administration of Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores has confirmed that a parent left the stands during the school's football game Friday night at Warren Woods Tower and became involved in a physical altercation with one of the assistant coaches.

The coach has been terminated from the coaching staff and both the coach and the affected parent will be prohibited from attending the Lake Shore facility or future events.

According to reports, a video has surfaced on social media showing a parent entering the football field, walking toward the coach and then punching him in the head. The coach fell to the ground while other players and coaches jump in to break up the fight.

Lake Shore School Principal Dr. Janelle Bross said in an email to parents that the behavior of the two men involved did not meet the community's expectations.

The full letter sent from the school to Lake Shore families reads as follows:

“Hello Shorian families – At yesterday's away university football game, we confirmed that a Lake Shore parent left the stands and walked onto the field during the game. While standing on the sidelines, the parent was involved in a physical altercation with one of our coaches. The coach has been dismissed from our coaching staff and neither he nor the parent is permitted to enter our premises or participate in any future LS events. We are incredibly disappointed in the behavior of these two men – this behavior is well below the expectations we have for all members of our school community.
I wish you all a nice rest of the weekend,
Dr. Janelle Bross
Headmaster, LSHS”

It is unclear whether criminal charges will be filed.

The school did not disclose the name of the coach.
