SALINE COUNTY – A Mulvane man was arrested Friday night after a physical altercation with police and security guards following the Salina South vs. Maize South football game at Salina Central Stadium.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., a school security officer and a security guard were called to remove an adult spectator from the game for disruptive behavior, according to Captain James Feldman of the Salina Police Department (SPD).

A Salina South High School security guard was approached by Salina South High staff who requested that an adult Maize South fan be ejected from the game due to his behavior in the stands, Feldman said.

The suspect, later identified as Jonathan Cordova, 43, of Mulvane, initially complied with requests to leave the stadium but refused to completely vacate the premises, stating he had to wait for someone.

Feldman could not provide details about the specific conduct that led to Cordova's expulsion from the stadium.

The officer again asked Cordova to leave, but he then refused and approached the school security officer.

School officials then attempt to arrest the suspect.

Cordova struck the 38-year-old security guard several times in the head and also punched the 63-year-old guard. The security guard suffered a bruise above her left eye and the guard suffered a head injury.

Attempts to subdue Cordova with a taser were initially unsuccessful, but after a second use the taser worked and he was taken into custody.

Cordova was booked into the Saline County Jail and charged with battery on a police officer, battery on a security guard, trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to online jail records.
