Police: Man arrested after smashing vehicle windows and pointing gun at owner in Santa Rosa

A Santa Rosa man was arrested last week after he smashed the windows of a vehicle and assaulted the owner in southwest Santa Rosa, according to police.

The reporter told police around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday that the man drove away from the 1600 block of Sendero Lane in a white GMC pickup truck after pulling out a gun and pointing it at the owner, Santa Rosa police said in a news release.

Officers later stopped and searched the truck.

They found a handgun and an extended magazine with room for 30 rounds of ammunition in the passenger seat and discovered another handgun, more than 100 rounds of ammunition and 6 pounds of packaged marijuana in the bed of the pickup truck. Police also checked the passenger compartment and found several open bottles of alcohol.

The driver, later identified as Francisco Javier Palomino Alvarez, 40, was required to take a breathalyzer test and officers found his blood alcohol level to be above the legal limit of 0.08%. Alvarez's driver's license was also suspended, the release said.

Alvarez was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on nine charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism causing damage over $400, driving under the influence and possession of marijuana for sale. He is also suspected of possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a felony for pleading guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in 2000, according to Sonoma County Superior Court records.

According to online records, he is no longer in jail as of Monday. No charges have been filed against him in court.
