More information released about the accident on I-15 that left a baby hospitalized in critical condition

A mother and her two young children were hospitalized after a four-vehicle crash on I-15 northbound.

The accident occurred in the area of 12500 South shortly before 8:15 p.m. Sunday. It was raining heavily and the roads were wet at the time of the incident, the Utah Department of Public Safety said.

A Range Rover was traveling too fast for the conditions and lost control. DPS said the Range Rover began to spin and struck the side of a Ford Mustang, which was forced into the left concrete barrier.

The Range Rover then came to a stop in the wrong direction in the HOV lane.

Shortly afterwards, a Sprinter van “could not avoid a collision with the Range Rover and collided head-on,” according to the DPS.

A motorcyclist then dropped his motorcycle to avoid a collision with all the vehicles involved.

A 16-month-old boy, his six-year-old brother and their mother were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The 16-month-old child's condition is critical, the DPS said. The cause could be improper securing.

All other people involved in the accident, including the motorcyclist, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
