DES MOINES POLICE HAVE ARRESTED A PERSON IN CONNECTION WITH A FATAL SHOOTING EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. 25-YEAR-OLD KEONTE TAYLOR IS CHARGED WITH INTENTIONAL DEATH AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM. POLICE SAY TAYLOR SHOT A MAN AFTER A FIGHT OUTSIDE A STORE NEAR SECOND AND UNIVERSITY AVENUE. Des Moines man arrested for fatal weekend shooting

A 25-year-old Des Moines man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting on University Avenue Sunday morning. Kyonta Lavon Taylor, 25, of Des Moines, has been charged with manslaughter (a Class C felony) and illegal possession of a weapon (a Class D felony). According to Des Moines police, surveillance video shows that several people were in the parking lot of a convenience store at 1443 Second Avenue after closing time around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say there were several arguments between the people present. The victim in this case, a 24-year-old Des Moines man whose name has not yet been released, intervened in one of the arguments, which escalated into a physical altercation by punching Taylor and throwing him to the ground. Police say Taylor responded by pulling out a gun and shooting the other man. The victim got into a car and attempted to drive away, but crashed at the intersection of Second Avenue and University Avenue. There, police and paramedics found him with a gunshot wound.
