Sean “Diddy” Combs arrested in New York in sex trafficking investigation

Controversial rapper and hip-hop musician Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested Monday night in New York City amid a federal investigation into sex trafficking allegations, his attorney and sources said.

It is still unclear what charges will be brought against the fallen star, but the New York Times reported that the arrest followed an indictment by a grand jury.

Combs also faces a long string of domestic violence allegations against his former partner, R&B singer Cassie Ventura. She filed suit against him in November and the couple quickly settled. But a harrowing video of him physically attacking Ventura in a hotel hallway in 2016 recently resurfaced – sparking a new wave of backlash.

Combs' Beverly Hills mansion was also raided by the Department of Homeland Security about six months ago. It's unclear what agents were looking for in the March raid, but it's believed to have been part of a sex trafficking investigation.

According to a source, the hip-hop mogul cooperated fully and came to New York voluntarily ahead of the indictment.

“We are disappointed by the U.S. Attorney's decision to pursue what we believe is an unjustified prosecution of Mr. Combs. Sean “Diddy” Combs is a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a loving family man and a proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to advance the black community,” Combs' attorney Marc Agnifilo said in a statement.

“He is not a perfect person, but he is not a criminal. To his credit, Mr. Combs has been consistently cooperative with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve judgment until you know all the facts. These are the actions of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
