Man and woman die in head-on collision on Cordon Road, three seriously injured

Two people were killed in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on Southeast Cordon Road on Monday morning.

A man and a woman, occupants of one of the trucks, were already dead when emergency responders arrived at the scene. According to a press release, Salem police and emergency responders arrived at the scene at 10:09 a.m.

Three adult occupants of one of the vehicles involved were seriously injured and taken to Salem Health. Police did not disclose which vehicle the injured were in and did not immediately respond to further questions Monday evening.

The names of the vehicle occupants involved in the accident had not been released as of Monday afternoon because police were waiting to notify next of kin.

At around 10:30 a.m., Salem Police announced a road closure of Cordon Road from Southeast Gaffin and Caplinger Road.

The 1100 block of Southeast Cordon Road was closed for about four hours.

Salem police are still investigating the accident, the department said in a press release.
