California teacher suspended after allegations of sexual abuse

A California teacher is expected to lose his job after two former students accused him of sexual abuse.

Lexington Junior High School band director Steve Graves, 61, is accused of sexually abusing two female students in the 1980s. The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) recently announced that school administrators have begun the process of firing Graves, who is currently on leave.

Manly, Stewart & Finaldi, the law firm representing the two victims, told Fox News Digital that the abuse began in 1986 when Grave was teaching at Loara High School in Anaheim. The teacher was about 23 or 24 years old at the time.

Both women were 16 years old when they were sexually assaulted. One of the victims, who wanted to be identified as Reiko, told FOX 11 Los Angeles that she gave birth to Graves' child when she was 17.

Reiko transferred to another school after she became pregnant and gave birth to her child. Nearly four decades later, Reiko contacted the other victim through social media and the two began sharing their stories.

Anaheim police are involved in the investigation, but no charges have been filed against Grave. The women plan to file a civil lawsuit against him.

Attorney Morgan Stewart told FOX 11 Los Angeles that he had evidence that the supervisors “knew that [Graves] was a predator and yet he kept it, and has done so for over 30 years,” but has not made the evidence public.

In a statement provided to Fox News Digital, the AUHSD said it was “shocked, saddened and dismayed” by the “credible allegations.”

“When the district learned of this situation in late August, Graves was placed on leave and removed from campus,” the statement continued. “AUHSD has cooperated fully with the Anaheim Police Department in investigating this incident to identify any additional possible instances of inappropriate behavior, harassment or sexual misconduct by Graves.”
