Sean Diddy Combs arrested after grand jury indictment in New York

Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in New York City on Monday. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The music mogul was taken into custody after being indicted by a grand jury, but the specific charges were unclear.

“We are disappointed by the U.S. Attorney's decision to pursue what we believe is an unjustified prosecution of Mr. Combs,” Marc Agnifilo, Combs' attorney, told THR. “Sean 'Diddy' Combs is a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a loving family man and a proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and advocating for the advancement of the black community. He is not a perfect person, but he is not a criminal. To his credit, Mr. Combs has cooperated fully with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve judgment until you know all of the facts. These are the actions of an innocent man with nothing to hide and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”

The arrest comes as Combs continues to face serious legal troubles, most recently a new sexual assault lawsuit filed last week by his former bandmate Dawn Richard. Richard's suit includes claims of assault, false imprisonment, withholding millions of dollars in unpaid royalties and wages, and theft of her copyrighted works.

Richard's complaint was at least the eighth filed against him since his ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura filed a lawsuit last year detailing years of physical and sexual abuse. That suit was quickly settled but led to other accusers, including Liza Gardner, Joi Dickerson-Neal and Crystal McKinney, filing similar complaints.

Combs was also served with a sexual harassment lawsuit in February from producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who accused the music mogul of harassing and trafficking him. Combs filed a motion to dismiss Lil Rod's lawsuit in August. He has also denied the other allegations, essentially saying the accusers are pushing for compensation.

In March, federal agents raided Diddy's residences as part of a human trafficking investigation. In May, a 2016 video surfaced showing Combs punching Ventura, running out of a hotel room, chasing her to the elevator, grabbing her by the neck, throwing her to the ground, kicking her, shoving her and dragging her by her sweatshirt. Later in the footage, he kicks her again and then throws an object at her from a nearby table.

Diddy issued a public apology a few days after the video was released, acknowledging the incident and saying, “I was devastated – I hit rock bottom – but I'm not making excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable.”

Ventura also responded to the video's release, saying Diddy's abuse “made me into someone I never thought I would become. Through a lot of hard work, I'm better today, but I will always have to recover from my past.”
