Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning were all stunned by the Eagles’ decision,

Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning have started a combined 782 games at quarterback in their NFL careers. They have been in many late-game situations where keeping an eye on the clock is paramount. And they agreed Monday night that no matter what the Eagles did when they were leading against the Falcons, they shouldn't risk stopping the clock with an incomplete pass.

Ryan was in the ManningCast with Peyton and Eli, and when the Eagles led 18-15 late in the fourth quarter, all three Eagles coaches warned Nick Sirianni not to call a pass.

“I don’t think the ball is going to go in the air again,” Ryan said at the two-minute warning.

But Ryan was wrong, as Sirianni called for a third-and-3 pass that Eagles running back Saquon Barkley dropped, stopping the clock and giving the Falcons 40 extra seconds in a game they eventually won by a touchdown with 34 seconds left.

The Manning brothers believed this was the only way for the Falcons to win.

“Do you think they’re going to get the ball back, Peyton?” Eli asked on the show as the Falcons took their final timeouts.

“If Philly throws it,” Peyton replied.

“They won’t throw it,” Eli scoffed.

Ryan agreed: “The ball should not be in the air for the rest of the game”

Both Eli and Peyton thought the Eagles could try a tush push on third and third down and then try it on fourth down and try it again if the tush push didn't gain three yards.

“The shot is coming. You can't throw here,” Peyton said.

The Eagles threw the ball there. Incomplete to stop the clock after the Falcons took their last timeout.

“That's why you don't throw,” Peyton said. “Kirk Cousins is over there celebrating. When he saw he was falling behind, he said, 'Yeah!'”

The Eagles' pass attempt was one of the most shocking decisions of this young NFL season and a decision that three quarterbacks who had been in such a situation before begged them not to make.
