Man arrested for murder of nurse in Oregon appears in court

The 27-year-old man from Beaverton is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and second-degree desecration of a corpse in connection with the death of Melissa Jubane.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – The man accused of murdering a Beaverton nurse appeared in a Washington County courtroom Monday. Bryce Schubert, 27, was arrested Sept. 6 and charged with the murder of 32-year-old Melissa Jubane. Schubert is accused of murder, kidnapping and desecration of a corpse.

Schubert entered a not guilty plea via video in a preliminary hearing Monday to determine whether there is enough evidence to put him on trial. Schubert is scheduled to appear in court again on October 15.

New court documents have revealed that Melissa Jubane was likely intentionally killed by Schubert in Washington County on or around September 4. According to court documents obtained by KGW, she was kidnapped and taken from one location to another by Schubert with the intent to physically harm Jubane.

It is also believed that Schubert intentionally injured and abused Jubane's body after killing her.

Schubert is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree desecration of a corpse. Due to the nature of the charges against him, he will not be granted bail, court records show.

Jubane was reported missing on the morning of September 4 after she failed to show up for work at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, where she worked as a nurse.

Her disappearance sparked searches by friends and family and a police investigation. Friends told KGW that Jubane had just gotten married.

During that investigation, Beaverton police concluded that one of Jubane's neighbors, Schubert, was involved in her disappearance. Both lived in a Beaverton apartment complex near Southwest 160th Avenue and Baseline Road.

Providence said Schubert was not employed at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, but briefly worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023.

At the time, Beaverton police said in a news release that they had found Jubane's remains and arrested Schubert on a charge of first-degree murder. They declined to provide further details about what happened before Jubane's death or where Jubane's remains were found.
