Girl arrested for threatening certain students at Manteca school

A 13-year-old girl was arrested Monday on charges of targeting students at two Manteca schools and making threats on Instagram, police said. Manteca police said the teen listed the names of actual students at Sequoia Elementary School in her threats and also mentioned a shooting at Manteca High School. Officials said her threats were unrelated to the threats and rumors of school shootings that circulated on social media last week. Police said the suspect “intended to instill fear in the students listed.” Investigators do not believe she had the means to carry out the threats. The girl did not attend school Monday, officials said. Her parents were contacted and are cooperating with the investigation. The girl will be booked into juvenile hall on charges of criminal threats and threatening an officer. “It is important that parents talk to their children about the real consequences of making threats in person or online,” Manteca police said in a news release. The department will continue to investigate the case and the separate school shooting rumors that have been circulating online.
