Temperatures will soon drop in Fresno as it rains. Here's what to expect

According to the National Weather Service, Fresno will finally get a break from scorching temperatures when a storm moves through next week.

The Fresno area could see cooler temperatures and even some rain on Monday, September 16.

“Monday will be cloudy and there will be some drizzle,” said Carlos Molina, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford. “There could be enough rain to actually wet the ground…”

The last rain in Fresno was on Aug. 24, the weather service said, but only a few drizzles. The same storm brought snow to parts of the Sierra Nevada, including Yosemite National Park.

Unfortunately, next week's storm will not last long, the weather service said.

“It will be a one-day rain event for Fresno,” Molina said.

“We will still have some clouds overnight from Monday to Tuesday,” he said, and temperatures will also be cooler.

“Once the storm passes on Tuesday, temperatures will slowly rise again,” he said.

What is the weather forecast for Fresno?

According to the weather service's seven-day forecast, sunny weather is expected for Fresno on Saturday.

The high temperature will be 93 degrees and the low will be around 63 degrees.

Sunday will be sunny with highs of around 30 degrees and lows of around 13 degrees.

In Fresno, wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour are expected on Sunday night, the weather service said.

When will it start to rain?

According to the weather service, there is a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain in Fresno on Monday morning and there will also be a sharp drop in temperature.

The high temperature on Monday will be around 73 degrees, the low temperature around 54 degrees.

Once skies clear, highs of 79 and lows of around 59 degrees will be reached Tuesday, with winds around 5 mph.

“It will take a little longer for temperatures to rise above 30 degrees again,” Molina said, and temperatures “will rise slightly throughout the rest of the week.”

Will there be more showers in Fresno?

Rain will return on Wednesday as a storm moves in from the Pacific Northwest, Molina said.

According to the weather service, there is a 20% chance of rain both during the day and at night from Wednesday to Sunday, and wind speeds of up to 8 km/h are to be expected.

The high is 75 and the low overnight is around 58.

“(The storm) could bring some clouds to our area and maybe give us a few drops,” Molina said. “It doesn't look like it's going to be much…”

“The only storm on Monday that has a very high chance of actually bringing rain,” he added.

According to the weather service, it will be sunny again in Fresno on Thursday and the maximum temperature will be 79 degrees.
