Showers and sunsets, thunderstorms possible

Good morning! I'm watching for showers early Wednesday as a low pressure system approaches over the Pacific. This system is developing just off the coast of the region and will continue to spread showers across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington during the morning rush hour. A few showers are possible, especially as cooler air moves over us. In fact, isolated thunderstorms along and west of the Cascades can't be ruled out today. Afternoon breaks in sunshine should allow temperatures to reach around 21 degrees in the Willamette Valley. After noon, it will stay plenty dry, but be prepared for the occasional shower or downpour.

Tomorrow will be mostly dry, with a possible shower or two. Temperatures shouldn't change much, with highs around 21 degrees. In fact, we're looking at very pleasant temperatures for the foreseeable future. I don't see any signs of strong high pressure forming over the Pacific Northwest. As I said last week, I'm pretty sure we're done with heat waves for the year.

A weak system is likely to brush the region between Friday night and Saturday. A few light showers cannot be ruled out. I would say the greatest chance of heavy rain is on the north coast and coastal range. I am more confident that heavy rain will return around Tuesday. This system could be a little cooler, with highs as low as 18 degrees Celsius. If our volcanoes are not covered in a thin layer of snow today, it will be by the middle of next week.

Enjoy this fall pattern and have a nice Wednesday!
