Accident between semi-trailer and car in front of St. James Hospital in Hornell

Emergency crews rescued a trapped driver after a crash involving a car and a semi-trailer outside UR Medicine St. James Hospital.

According to officials, the two-vehicle accident on Seneca Road North was reported around 10 a.m. Monday.

North Hornell and Hornell fire departments responded, and paramedics evaluated and treated a person trapped in the wreckage. St. James Hospital personnel also provided medical aid, officials said.

Hornell Rescue 61 used Hurst rescue shears to free the patient, whose feet were trapped. The person was freed in about 28 minutes, rescue officials said.

According to emergency responders, patient care was referred to LifeNet 7-7 Hornell. The injured motorist was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Further details of the accident were not immediately released and no other serious injuries were reported.
