Two men from the Lowcountry face federal charges of drug trafficking

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A federal grand jury in Columbia has indicted two Lowcountry men on charges of attempting to traffic drugs.

Deangelo Montrel Lamont Simmons, 31, of Moncks Corner, and Raynard Dewayne Williams, 36, of North Charleston, were each charged with conspiracy to possess five or more kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, these arrests were part of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, North Charleston Police Department, Charleston Police Department, Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, Goose Creek Police Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Summerville Police Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Simmons and Williams each face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $20 million. The two will remain in custody pending trial.
