Premier League team Brentford host the League One team Leyton Orient on Tuesday at the Gtech Community Stadium in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The Bees narrowly beat Colchester United 1-0 in the second round of the tournament on 28 August, while the visitors beat Millwall 1-0 on 27 August to advance to this stage of the competition.

Brentford had 52% possession, had five shots on goal and produced more xG in the first half than Guardiola's team, and although they were outplayed by City in the second half, few teams have caused the champions as much trouble at the Etihad as Frank's side.

Brentford are currently ninth in the Premier League with six points after four game weeks and would surpass their tournament performance from last season if they progress from the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The Bees had 72% possession against Colchester in the second round, limiting them to just one shot in the first half, but were lucky not to concede a goal considering Jack Payne missed a penalty in the 82nd minute.

Frank's team goes into this duel with three wins from their last four competitive games, losing only one of their last eight home games, winning three times and drawing four times.

The visitors won their last game against Reading 1-0 on 14 September, failing to create a single big chance and limiting their opponents to just one big chance.

However, the league season has been poor for Leyton Orient so far: after five match weeks, the club is in third-to-last place (22nd) with just three points.

After the O's victory against Reading, boss Richie Wellens said his team's game management and decision-making still need to improve, but stressed that his team is still developing and will “continue to get better”.

Leyton Orient have been eliminated from seven of their last 11 EFL Cup matches, bowing out to Plymouth Argyle last season on August 8 after losing 2-0 in the first round of the competition.

Wellens' team have lost five of their eight competitive matches so far this season, including two of their last three. Of their four away games in the 2024/25 season, they have lost two and won two.

Brentford must Gustavo Nunes And Mathias Jensen until sometime next month, while Igor Thiago is not expected to be released until December.

Joshua Da Silva could return later in the year, while Aaron Hickey And Rico Henry are also unlikely to appear on Tuesday.

As for the guests, central defender Daniel Happe was substituted in the 70th minute due to injury and is unlikely to play.

Leyton Orient could field a similar eleven to the one that beat Millwall in the last round of the competition, with players like Lewis Warrington, Darren Pratley And Zech Obiero Candidates for starting in midfield.

If Brentford can repeat their first-half performance against Manchester City on Tuesday, they will be clear favourites to progress.

It would be no surprise to see the Bees take an early lead against Leyton Orient and, given the visitors' struggles this season, it is difficult to imagine them getting back into the game in such a scenario.
