Chiefs bring back RB Kareem Hunt as Isiah Pacheco is injured

Pacheco is expected to miss at least the next six weeks as he nurses a fractured fibula sustained in the Chiefs' win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

By signing Hunt, the Chiefs hope the 29-year-old can bolster a backfield that currently features rookie fullback Carson Steele and running back Samaje Perine, who has been with the team since being released by the Denver Broncos about three weeks ago. Veteran back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is currently on the non-football list and will not be eligible to return until Week 5.

From 2019 through last season, Hunt played for the Cleveland Browns, appearing in 64 games during that time, amassing 2,285 rushing yards and 3,342 scrimmage yards. For comparison, during his time with Kansas City, which included 27 games, he ran for 2,151 yards and had 2,984 scrimmage yards.

The Chiefs aren't hoping for the version of Hunt that set the league on fire in his first two seasons, but they're looking for a veteran to help them in the interim while Pacheco recovers.
