Teenager arrested after making threat at Carthage High School

CARTHAGE, Texas (KLTV) – A teenager is in jail after police responded to a report of a threat and suspicious person at Carthage High School Tuesday morning.

Carthage police arrested the 17-year-old around 7:30 a.m. after he allegedly entered the Carthage High School grounds with what appeared to be a gun.

According to police, the weapon was painted in bright colors and was later determined to be an airsoft or Orbeez rifle.

Police said the suspect, Auron Campbell, 17, of Gary, also had a backpack containing a gas mask and several magazines. They said he appeared drunk and agitated.

Campbell is not a student at this school. He was arrested and charged with terroristic threats, trespassing and public intoxication.

Investigating agencies include the Carthage Police Department, the Panola County Sheriff's Office and the FBI.
