Davenport man sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for drug and weapons offenses

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A Davenport man was sentenced Monday to 25 years in federal prison.

According to a press release, 35-year-old Roy Albert Philips was convicted of possession of methamphetamine and a firearm.

According to court documents:

Officers noticed Philip's reckless driving and attempted to pull him over. He continued driving, ignoring several stop signs and driving over 50 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone.

Philips' vehicle struck a pole and fled. As he fled, officers saw him drop a backpack containing a loaded handgun and 1 pound of methamphetamine.

Officers searched Philip's phone and found messages indicating that he was dealing meth and carrying a weapon related to drug trafficking activities.

After serving his prison sentence, Philips will have to serve five years of probation, the press release said. There is no parole in the federal system.
