Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was arrested today at Krakow airport in Poland for unknown reasons.

In an update from Usyk:

“Everything is fine, my friends. There was a misunderstanding that was quickly cleared up. Thank you to everyone who was worried. Thank you, Ukrainian diplomats, for your support. And respect to the Polish law enforcement officers who, despite their size, weight, arm length and insignia, do their duty.”

It is good news that the situation was resolved so quickly and Usyk was released from custody. He did not say why he was arrested.

What Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) might have done to get arrested is unclear. Fans on social media joke that he was arrested for beating up Tyson Fury on May 18. He beat him up terribly in the ninth round, making him look up into distant galaxies after taking 20 consecutive shots to the head.

The undefeated Usyk is preparing for his rematch against former WBC heavyweight champion Fury on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury may have thought he was off the hook after learning of Usyk's arrest, but now he's faced with a problem again. He can't be too happy about it.

Now that the fight has resumed, Fury will have to find a way to avoid getting beat up again, as the last fight didn't end very well for him. Usyk dominated the contest and won comfortably. He could have knocked Fury out if the referee hadn't intervened to give Tyson a standing eight count in the ninth round.

Usyk defeated Fury last May and is now looking to knock him down for his second consecutive loss. This would make Usyk 4-0 in his fights against Fury and Anthony Joshua.
