Shortly after noon on Sept. 6, a Sulphur police officer observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation near the intersection of South Cities Service Highway and Teal Road, according to Sulphur police Maj. Jason Gully. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, identified as Young, refused to stop.

Young continued driving on Swisco Road, turned onto Elliswood Road and then onto Mosswood Drive, Gully said. On Mosswood Drive, Young threw a backpack out of the vehicle and continued onto Beglis Parkway.

The chase continued through Sulphur and eventually ended at the intersection of Prince and Princess streets, Gully said. At that point, Young ran away through a line of trees. He was later arrested behind a business on East Napoleon Street.

The backpack thrown from the vehicle was confiscated and contained illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, Gully said.
