Man arrested with machete near Magee High School

Magee police arrested a man Tuesday who was near a school with a machete in his hand. Police Chief Denis Borges said police received a call about the man being spotted near Magee High School. Within two minutes, officers had him arrested. The man was identified as Willie Jones. “Jones was still holding the machete when officers approached him,” Borges said in a social media post. “After further investigation, Jones was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.” Jones was taken to the Magee Police Department, where he was evaluated by paramedics. “While our investigation determined there was no immediate danger to students, we are not taking any chances with the safety of our community,” Borges said.

“Jones was still holding the machete when officers approached him,” Borges said in a social media post. “After further investigation, Jones was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.”

Jones was transported to the Magee Police Department where he was examined by paramedics.

“Although our investigation concluded there was no immediate danger to the students, we never take risks with the safety of our community,” Borges said.
