Diana Taurasi was called a hypocrite by Caitlin Clark fans

During a September 13 game against the Las Vegas Aces, Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark received her sixth technical foul of the WNBA regular season.

The technical foul was called after Clark punched the post in frustration after being upset about a foul a few minutes into the game. Many fans felt the technical foul was unnecessary because it was a brief expression of frustration that was not directed directly at a referee.

And Clark's passionate fan base was angered again on Sunday after WNBA legend Diana Taurasi did the exact same thing in the third quarter of the Phoenix Mercury's game against the Chicago Sky – and received no technical foul for it.

X-user @kenswift posted a video of Taurasi hitting the post and wrote, “Hey @WNBA so this is just a tech for @CaitlinClark22?”

One fan commented on this post by adding: “And it's the same ref with the dreadlocks who is officiating the game.” By this he meant that the same referee was present during both outbursts of frustration.

“The new rules say this only applies to Caitlin Clark,” joked another fan with a photo of Clark holding her hands up during a press conference.

A third fan added, “So the mom doesn't get a tech for that? That's just for the kid, right?” and posted a photo of Clark and Taurasi laughing together during a game.

While it's understandable for Clark fans to be upset about this blatant hypocrisy, Clark does have some good news: She avoided her seventh technical foul on Sunday and will not be suspended for the Fever's final regular season game against the Washington Mystics.
